حفظة سلام اليوناميد يوفرون رعاية طبية ماسة لنازحين بإحدى مدن شرق دارفور
لبدو ،24 نوفمبر2013 – ظل الآلاف من النازحين يحصلون على الحماية ويتلقون الرعاية الطبية من اليوناميد منذ أبريل 2013 ،في أعقاب قتال دار بين قوات حكومة السودان وإحدى الحركات المسلحة، ما أجبرهم على الفرار من ديارهم في لبدو بشرق دارفور. وقد نزح حوالي 29,000 نسمة من لبدو والقرى المجاورة لها إلى عدد من معسكرات النازحين في جنوب وشمال وشرق دارفور كما لجأ عدة آلاف منهم إلى جوار موقع الفريق الميداني لليوناميد بتلك المنطقة. نُهب سوق لبدو الرئيسي إضافة إلى تسع مدارس ومرفق صحي أثناء الصدامات.
كانت الخدمات الطبية من أكثر الاحتياجات إلحاحاً لهؤلاء النازحين، وظلت عيادة اليوناميد المرفق الطبي الوحيد الذي يمكنه توفير الرعاية الصحية لهم منذ ذلك الوقت. وظل المرضى يزورون هذه العيادة، التي تشرف عليها كتيبة نيجيرية، بواقع 200 مريض أسبوعياً، معظمهم من النساء والأطفال.
وكانت أكثر الحالات شيوعاً التي عولجت هي الملاريا، والتايفويد، ونزلات البرد، والزكام، والجروح، والإسهالات، وسوء التغذية، والتهابات العيون. كذلك ساعد الفريق الطبي في حالات الولادة ومساعدة الحوامل اللائي تعرضن لمتاعب في الحمل. وقال الملازم ماثيو قوون، طبيب اليوناميد في لبدو:”نعمل كل ما في وسعنا، في حدود إمكانياتنا ومواردنا المحدودة، لمساعدة هؤلاء الناس وإنقاذ حياتهم. ونناشد الوكالات الإنسانية بشدة لتوفير الإسناد اللازم، خاصة الأدوية للأطفال والحوامل” .
في الأثناء مازالت اليوناميد تواصل إتصالاتها بوكالات الأمم المتحدة والوكالات الإنسانية الدولية الأخرى لتوفير المعونات التي يحتاجها أهل لبدو بشدة. وفي 20 نوفمبر 2013 قامت البعثة بتسهيل إيصال إمدادت طبية وفرتها منظمة الصحة العالمية. ويتوقع وصول المزيد من الإمدادت الطبية خلال الأيام القادمة إذ يعمل الهلال الأحمر السوداني، بدعم لوجستي من اليوناميد، على افتتاح مركز طبي مؤقت في معسكر النازحين الجديد.
كذلك قامت البعثة بتسهيل نقل مواد تعليمية، بما فيها أفرشة وكراسات، وفرتها اليونيسيف للمدرسة الأولية الوحيدة التي أعيد فتحها قريباً والتي يؤمها 945 تلميذاً. تفتقر المدرسة للأدراج والكراسي والكتب الدراسية والمواد التعليمية الأخرى. وفرت وزارة التربية والتعليم بعض المدرسين للمدرسة ويتوقع توفير المزيد منهم قريباً.
عززت اليوناميد دورياتها الأمنية وتنظر في أمر تسيير دوريات منتظمة للنازحين، خاصة للنساء اللائي يخرجن من المعسكرات بحثاً عن الماء والحطب.
وستواصل البعثة بذل كل ما في وسعها لحماية المدنيين ودعم المجتمع الإنساني للإيفاء بمتطلبات النازحين في دارفور.
وقال أوريانو ميكاليتي، رئيس قسم الشؤون الإنسانية والحماية باليوناميد “اليوناميد ستعمل بالتضامن مع برنامج الغذاء العالمي واليونيسيف ومنظمة الصحة العالمية والمفوضية السامية لشؤون اللاجئين لضمان إيصال المعونات الإنسانية مثل الأدوية، والغذاء، والخيام، والجركانات، والمواد التعليمية، والأفرشة، والمياه إضافة إلى مضاعفة عدد الدوريات التي تنفذها العناصر العسكرية والشرطية بالبعثة من أجل خلق بيئة ملائمة تساعد النازحين الجدد على العودة إلى ديارهم”.

UNAMID peacekeepers provide critical health care to displaced population in an East Darfur town
Labado, 24 November 2013 – Thousands of internally displaced persons (IDPs) have been receiving protection and health care from African Union-United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) since April 2013, when fighting between Government of Sudan troops and an armed movement forced them to flee their homes in Labado, East Darfur.
Approximately 29,000 people from Labado and surrounding villages were displaced to different IDP camps in South, North and East Darfur and few thousands of them have taken refuge in the vicinity of UNAMID’s Team Site there. Labado’s main market, nine schools and the health care facility were all looted and destroyed during the clashes.
Health has been one of the most critical needs for these IDPs and UNAMID’s clinic remains the only medical centre providing assistance to them ever since. About 200 patients per week, the majority women and children, visit the Mission’s clinic, run by Nigerian peacekeepers.
The most common cases being treated are malaria, typhoid, cold, flu, wounds, diarrhoea, malnutrition and eye infections. The medical team have also assisted in delivering babies and supporting pregnant women experiencing prenatal difficulties. “Within our limited capacity and resources, we are doing everything we can to support the community and save lives. We have called on the humanitarian agencies to urgently provide the necessary support particularly medicines for children and pregnant women,” said Lt Matthew Gowon, UNAMID physician in Labado.
In the meantime, UNAMID continues to liaise with relevant UN and international humanitarian agencies to provide much needed aid for the people of Labado. On 20 November 2013, the Mission facilitated the delivery of medical supplies provided by the World Health Organization. More medical supplies are expected to arrive within the coming days, as the Sudanese Red Crescent, with logistical support from UNAMID, is working towards opening a temporary medical centre in the new IDP camp.
The Mission has also facilitated the transportation of educational materials, including mats and exercise books, supplied by UNICEF for the only primary school which recently reopened with 945 students. The school lacks desks, chairs, text books and other educational materials. The Ministry of Education has provided some teachers to the school and more are expected to be deployed soon.
UNAMID has reinforced its security patrols in the area and is conducting regular escort patrols for the displaced people, particularly women, who tend to venture out in search of water and firewood.
The Mission shall continue to do whatever that is in its capability to protect civilians and support the humanitarian community in meeting the needs of the displaced people of Darfur.”UNAMID is working hand in hand with WFP, UNICEF, WHO and UNHCR to ensure delivery of humanitarian relief such as medicines, food, tents, jerrycans, educational material, mats and water as well as increasing the number of patrols conducted by UNAMID Military and Police to create a secure environment conducive to the return of the newly displaced to their homes,” said Oriano Micaletti, UNAMID Head of Humanitarian and Protection Section.
