التقى سفير الاتحاد الاوروبي للسودان توماس يوليشنى فخامة البروفيسور إبراهيم غندور مساعد رئيس جمهورية السودان في مكتبه في القصر الجمهوري اليوم وناقش التقدم في العلاقات الأوروبية السودانية. وقال السفير توماس للصحافة بعد انتهاء الاجتماع:  أن المقابلة كانت مهمة للاستماع من فخامة مساعد الرئيس عن جهود السودان لبدء الحوار الوطني والذى تأخر وأهمية تعزيز بناء  الثقة والحريات في المرحلة السياسية القادمة للسودان.

وكرر السفير توماس دعم الاتحاد الأوروبي لحوار وطني حقيقي وشامل من شأنه أن يؤدي إلى سلام دائم، وتحول ديمقراطي حقيقي واحترام كامل لحقوق الإنسان.

وأضاف السفير توماس يوليشنى أن الاتحاد الأوروبي سيستمر في الدعوة إلى إطلاق سراح جميع السجناء السياسيين و الصحفيون والقيادات الطلابية وقادة الأحزاب في السودان.

ورحب السفير توماس بالأفراج عن مريم إبراهيم وقال ان الإفراج هو انتصار  للمدافعين عن حقوق الإنسان والحرية الدينية في السودان والعالم. وقال السفير توماس أن رئيس المفوضية الاوروبية خوسيه مانويل باروسو رحب بالإفراج وان الاتحاد الأوروبي يدعو السودان للالتزام بالدستور والمعاهدات الدولية.

وأضاف السفير توماس يوليشنى  أن الاتحاد الأوروبي يدعو  الحكومة السودانية وجميع البلدان الأخرى لإلغاء أي أحكام قانونية  تعاقب ضد الأفراد بسبب تغيير دينهم أو معتقداتهم. وأضاف السفير أنه يتعين على الحكومات الالتزام بحماية حقوق وسلامة هؤلاء الأفراد وضرورة تشجيع التعايش والتسامح الديني.

European Union Ambassador welcomes the release of Meriam Ibrahim

Ambassador Tomas Ulicny, Head of Delegation of the European Union to Sudan met with His Excellency Prof. Ibrahim Ghandour, Assistant to the President of the Republic at the Republican Palace today and discussed the progress in the Euro- Sudanese relations.

After the meeting, ambassador Ulicny said that the meeting was important to better understand Sudan’s efforts to kick off the delayed national dialogue and the importance of enabling the atmosphere of trust and freedoms in the impending political phase for Sudan.

Ambassador Tomas Ulicny reiterated the support of the European Union to a genuine and inclusive national dialogue that will lead to durable peace, democratic transformation and respect to human rights in Sudan.  Ambassador Tomas added that the European Union will continue to call for the release of all the political detainees including student leaders, journalists and party leaders in Sudan. 

Ambassador Tomas Ulicny welcomed the release from custody of Meriam Ibrahim and said her release is a win to human rights defenders and freedoms of religion in Sudan and the world.  Ambassador Tomas Ulicny said that the European Union President of Commission José Manuel Barroso welcomed the release and that the European Union calls on Sudan to act in respect of its constitution and international obligations. 

The European Union calls on the Sudanese government and all other countries to repeal any legal provisions that penalize or discriminate against individuals for their religion or beliefs. Governments have obligations to protect the fundamental rights and safety of all  individuals and control the harmful sway of intolerance.
