July 1964 a beginning of a school new year . A brand new student at first class ( Newton ) , Hantoub Secondary School , never anticipated that his first English Language Period would transfer him to the magic of the Londoners when they speak no matter the occasion is , but at all situations listeners obediently turn into recepients whose sole goal at that moment is not to skip a tiny portion of the speech being pouring on them as a series of scared water .
A gigantic figure , bald and bare headed came along the corridor , walking quietly , touching the tiles mercilly , we never saw him stepping into the class , only he stood elengently in front of the board facing us then bade us the morning greeting .
His voice has got the odour and solemently of the BBC staff but a little bit lower . That day we felt the sensation of the link between the educator and the educated when practically Mr. Hamedalneil Al – Fadil took us to new horizons of charm that paint communication with rhetoric expressions and elequency with word building.
But Mr. Hamedalneil Al – Fadil the moment we adjusted our ears to the sweetness of his tunes while reading or explaining , all of a sudden disappered , leaving us guessing where were his whereabouts. We completed first , second and third year . At the threshold of four year he reappeared , amid our rejoice of his blessed return , he divulged the secret of how he absented himself from Hantoub all that long time.
He narrated the story as calmly as he used to . We understood that he yearly dispatched to London to acquire more and more the technicalities of teaching English as foreign language.
Three times upon his return the Ministry of Education saw that he should go to a different school , We were fortunate enough to meet him once again at the fourth class to lead us to glory by his unique style of teaching English in general and literature in particular especially when he tackled ( The Gun ) , which went on fighting against the French, that volume which described the cruelty of wars and the associating calamities like chronic diseases accompanied by severe hardships that are beyond any imaginations .
And how about Oscar Wilde and his sarcasm that embodied in ( The Importance of being Earnest ) .
Ibsen , the Norwegian , the father of the English Theatre and his play ( Pillars of the Community).
The literature lessons we received from Mr. Hamedalneil Al – Fadil were genuine retold in pure English , unlike the situation nowadays where we witness a lesson of English Literature is taught accompanied with Arabic translation.
By the way literature books for the Secondary Certificate are very simplified and eventhough the students mostly fjnd it very much to understand them by themselves. They need badly those who can read and translate for them !!..

To be continued .
