Sudanile: Publishing Articles in English
1. Purpose
Sudanile has decided to expand its editorial policy to include the publication of articles in English. This initiative aims to broaden readership, engage the Sudanese and regional diaspora, attract international scholars, policymakers, and media professionals, and position Sudanile as a bilingual platform for thought and debate on Sudanese affairs.
2. Objectives
• Increase accessibility of Sudanile content for non-Arabic readers interested in Sudan.
• Promote Sudanese voices in international discourse.
• Strengthen Sudanile’s role as a reference point for media, academia, and policy discussions.
• Support the sustainability of the platform through expanded readership and potential advertising or partnership opportunities.
3. Editorial Guidelines
• Content Types: Opinion articles, analysis, reports, and selected news features may be accepted in English.
• Quality Assurance: All English submissions will be reviewed by an editor with a strong command of the English language and the Sudanese context.
• Balance: The proportion of English-language publications will remain complementary, ensuring that Sudanile’s Arabic identity remains central while enabling bilingual coverage.
• Relevance: English articles must align with Sudanile’s editorial mission and provide added value for Sudanese and international audiences.
4. Operational Arrangements
• Dedicated Editorial Role: A bilingual editor (Arabic/English) will coordinate English submissions, translation when needed, and quality checks.
• Submission Process: Writers may submit directly in English or in Arabic for translation (depending on capacity and resources).
• Phased Approach: Start with 4–8 articles per month in English, gradually scaling up based on readership feedback and editorial capacity.
• Monitoring: Audience engagement with English content will be tracked through readership analytics and feedback surveys.
5. Sustainability and Partnerships
• Explore collaborations with universities, think tanks, and research centres that can contribute English content.
• Seek opportunities for advertising and sponsored content targeting international readership.
• Position English content as part of Sudanile’s future capacity-building and donor engagement strategy.
