استجابت حكومة اليابان اليوم لنداء إنساني عاجل لمعالجة حالات الطوارئ المتنامية للأطفال في السودان بتقديمها منحة قدرها 6.5 مليون دولار أمريكي لليونيسيف. هذه المنحة هى جزء من الدعم الشامل لتلبية الاحتياجات الأساسية للأطفال في مجالات التغذية، الصحة، المياه، الصرف الصحي وتعزيز النظافة. ستستخدم أموال الدعم بشكل خاص للحد من وفيات الأمهات والأطفال من خلال تقديم رعاية ما قبل الولادة للأمهات الحوامل بتأثير ملموس وتكلفة منخفضة وكذلك ضمان وجود نظام لإدارة النفايات الصلبة في المخيمات في جميع أنحاء دارفور، حيث من المتوقع أن يستفيد منها أكثر من65,000 من النازحين. كما سيتم توفير الدعم لإنشاء 20 مجموعة مجتمعية لدعم الأمهات لمساعدة النساء والأطفال الذين تقل أعمارهم عن سنتين لتبني ممارسات غذائية جيدة مثل الرضاعة الطبيعية والتغذية التكميلية المناسبة، والتنوع الغذائي الملائم وانتظام وجبات الطعام.
وأعلن سعادة السيد/ هيدكي إيتو، سفير اليابان في السودان عن المنحة، وقال: “يسرني أن أعلن عن بدء هذا المشروع الذي يستهدف بشكل خاص الاطفال الذين يعتبرون الأكثر ضعفاً في دارفور، الذين يعانون للوصول إلى سن الخامسة. كما إنني أقدر الجهود المخلصة التي تبذل من أجل تحقيق المصالحة والاستقرار في دارفور وأؤمن بأن هذا يحتاج إلى أن يستكمل بالتنمية البشرية. إن تربية الجيل القادم بصورة صحية أمر شديد الأهمية لازدهارهذا البلد “. وأشاد السفير إيتو أيضا بالشراكة التكاملية بين اليونيسيف وجايكا (الوكالة اليابانية للتعاون الدولي) في معالجة الاحتياجات الإنسانية للأطفال الأكثر عرضة للخطر.
ومن ناحيته أعرب ممثل اليونيسف جيرت كابيليري عن تقديره لحكومة وشعب اليابان على استدامة واستمرار الدعم لسلامة الأطفال في السودان. وأكد كابيليري أن “الاستثمار في الأطفال في السودان لا يزال ضرورة حتمية لأنهم لا يزالون يتحملون بصورة متصاعدة العبء الأكبر من حالات الطوارئ التي طال أمدها وأيضاً ضعف التنمية المزمن. وأن هذه المساهمة من حكومة اليابان لا يمكن أن يكون توقيتها مناسبا أكثر من هذا التوقيت “.
و لا تزال حالة الأطفال في السودان مصدر قلق لوجود الآلاف من النازحين وحوالى 2,000,000من الأطفال دون سن الخامسة الذين يعانون من سوء التغذية المزمن علماً بأن 550,000 منهم مصابون بسوء التغذية الحاد ومعرضون لخطر الموت. وقد تفاقم هذا الوضع بتفشي الأمراض المتعددة في أجزاء مختلفة من البلاد بما في ذلك الإسهال المائي الحاد والحصبة، مما يهدد حياة مئات الآلاف من الأطفال.

Children’s Emergency in Sudan receives critical boost from the Government of Japan
KHARTOUM, Sudan – 9th March 2015 – The Government of Japan today responded to the urgent humanitarian call to address the growing children’s emergency in Sudan with a US$6.5 million grant to UNICEF. The grant is a part of the overall support to address the basic needs of children in nutrition, health, water, and sanitation and hygiene promotion.
The funds will specifically support the reduction of maternal and child mortality through high impact and low cost prenatal care for expecting mothers as well as ensure a solid waste management system in the camps across Darfur, benefitting over 65,000 internally displaced persons. Support will also be provided to the establishment of 20 community-based mother support groups assisting women and children under the age of two years in adopting good nutritional practices such as exclusive breast feeding, appropriate complementary feeding, adequate diet diversity and frequency of meals.
Announcing the contribution, His Excellency Hideki ITO, the Japanese Ambassador to Sudan, said “I am pleased to announce the commencement of this project that particularly targets one of the most vulnerable people in Darfur, the children, who are struggling for life to reach the age of five. While I appreciate the sincere efforts being made towards reconciliation and stability in Darfur, I believe this needs to be complemented with human development. Raising a healthy next generation is crucial to the posterity of this country.” Ambassador ITO also commended the complementary partnership between UNICEF and JICA (Japan International Cooperation Agency) in addressing the humanitarian needs of the most vulnerable children.
The UNICEF Representative Geert Cappelaere expressed appreciation to the Government and people of Japan for their sustained and continued support to the well-being of the children in Sudan. “Investing in children in Sudan remains an urgent imperative as they increasingly continue to bear the brunt of protracted emergencies and chronic underdevelopment. This contribution from the Government of Japan could not have been more timely,” Cappelaere emphasised.
The situation of children in Sudan remains a concern with thousands displaced, some 2,000,000 children under the age of five suffering from chronic malnutrition of which 550,000 are severely malnourished and at risk of death. This has been worsened with multiple disease outbreaks in different parts of the country including acute water diarrhoea and measles, threatening the lives of hundreds of thousands of children.
