By mere accident , found myself face to face with an elderly woman dressed in elegant Sudanese ( Tope ) . But I was strongly bewildered when she ignored me openly only to concentrate in the shelf of that magnificent supermarket ( Moll of America ) !!..
I guessed that it would be better to initiate a gesture of good intention in order to eliminate any kind of suspect or reservation from her side towards me , honestly at that moment I felt that the figure who gave me no consideration or respect , needed by any means to draw her attention to the fact that we are both foreigners here, to be kins upon this situation is something normal as this phenomenon tied life of Sudanese worldwide with a sacred bond that is not liable to fall apart .،
( Hi , Madam ) .
She just noded and uttered not even a single letter .
( Frankly you remind me with my mother who I left recently. If it is not for joining the university I will not cross the Atlantic.Of course l will miss the extended family and the social life at our country and the beauties that make us all as one identity its members feel the pains of each other in a kind of magic Orchestra playing the music of peace and tranquility ) .
My words infiltrated in her body same as the electric current and responded immediately in a soft tune :
( Let us go to the cafeteria. You are my guset today, but remember one thing that we are no longer in Sudan ، so the bill will be fifty fifty , you understand.
( Although I am not accoustomed to this rule which is brand new for me but l will take it for granted to be a lesson and an experience that may add to my knowledge in the future .
In tha cafateria she kept telling me hre story from the moment she touched the American soil when the necessity arises that her present is highly required to witness the birth of her first grandson .
Her stay extended for about 45 consecutive years not interrupted by any out side travel even to her beloved country which is now dragged to a remote corner of her completely washed brain .
I became the friend of her family wirh greater allert not to depart with my homeland whatsoever the temptations may be .
She recalled that before leaving Khartoum one year after Numeiri Regime she used to listen to her mother chanting: ,
( Numeiri is nice , nicely decorated ) !!..
( سمح النميري سمحات دبابيرو ) !!..
