قام سفراء دول الاتحاد الاوروبي المعتمدين في السودان بزيارة الصادق المهدى رئيس الوزراء الاسبق ورئيس حزب الامة القومي في منزله بالملازمين. وأكد الدبلوماسيين الاوربيين عن ترحيبهم بإطلاق سراح الصادق المهدى وقاموا بمناقشة المهدى حول ظروف اطلاق سراحه ومستقبل الحوار الوطني ودور حزب الامة في المرحلة القادمة. في نهاية الاجتماع، صرح سفير الاتحاد الأوروبي توماس يوليشنى للصحافة الموجودة: لقد جئنا لتهنئة رئيس حزب الأمة القومي على إطلاق سراحه، أن اطلاق سراح المهدى هو خطوة في الطريق الصحيح للاستمرار في الحوار الوطني حيث يمثل الصادق المهدى وحزب ا لامة القومي احدى المشاركين الاساسيين فيه".
وأضاف السفير توماس يوليشنى أن الاتحاد الاوروبي أصدر عددا من البيانات في وقت سابق طلب فيها اطلاق سراح الصادق المهدي وجميع السجناء السياسيين في السودان..
قال السفير توماس أن الاتحاد الاوروبي ودوله تأمل من إطلاق سراح المهدي سوف يذهب جنبا إلى جنب مع إطلاق سراح جميع السجناء السياسيين والناشطين الحقوقيين الباقين حتى يتثنى للسودان أن يبدأ عملية حوار وطني حقيقي وبدء صفحة جديدة في الحريات السياسية في السودان من شأنه أن ينقذ وحدة واستقرار البلاد.
European Union hopes the release of Al Mahdi will be followed by the release of all remaining Political Prisoners to begin a genuine National Dialogue in Sudan
Today, the Ambassadors of the European Union countries present in Sudan paid a courtesy visit to Al Sadig Al Mahdi, President of the Umma National Party (UNP) and former Prime Minister of Sudan, at his residence in Omdurman. The Ambassadors congratulated Al Sadig Al Mahdi on his release and discussed with him perspectives for the national dialogue.
At the end of the meeting, European Union Ambassador Tomas Ulicny told to the press: "We came here to congratulate the Chairman of the Umma National Party on his release. The decision to release UNP Chairman and leading national figure Al Sadiq Al Mahdi is a step into right direction to resume the national dialogue for which Al Sadiq al Mahdi and the UNP are indispensable participants."
"The European Union and its member states have issued a number of statements calling for the release of Al Sadig Al Mahdi and all the political prisoners in Sudan as the prerequisite for genuine national dialogue in Sudan", Ambassador Tomas added.
"We hope the release of Al Mahdi will be followed by the release of all the remaining political prisoners including human rights activists to resume a genuine national dialogue process, thus paving the way for creation of a national consensus that will promote unity and stability of the country", Ambassador Tomas Ulicny said.
